ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONICS - Lighting & Wiring

Top Product

Stackable interface connector

  • configurable active elements
  • for buffering, level shifting or signal processing

A proposed Active Configurable and Stackable Interface surface mount connector contains internal circuits that buffer and process signals as they transit the connector. Applications for this patent-pending device include an active interface between electronic devices, including micro-electro-mechanical systems (for example, optical mirror arrays), sensor arrays (such as biological or chemical sensors), electronic packages (multi-chip modules, application-specific integrated circuits, field-programmable-gate-arrays, system-on-chips, system in packages, etc), or any other package requiring an electronic interface between devices, circuit card assemblies, cable assemblies, flex harnesses, etc. Extremely short connections, which can be provided in a high-density environment, not only provide fast transit times, but also offer reduced capacitive and inductive loading with less parasitic loss and noise levels.

Autocoupler for rotary tables

The current incarnation of this company’s Autocoupler works with pallet applications ³400 mm for horizontal machining centers, to provide electrical and pneumatic feed for rotary tables. One side of the coupler is fixed to the center post of the HMC, away from coolant and flying chips, while the other is mounted to the back of the rotary table. A guide pin ensures correct mating of the Autocoupler’s halves.

Light-to-voltage converters

These three light sensing devices consist of a photodiode, a transimpedance amplifier and gain setting resistors on a single die, minimizing noise and saving board space. Portable and non-portable applications include lighting controls and electronic dimming ballasts, contrast and brightness controls in signs, media detection in printers, and medical applications such as low-cost reagent strip readers.

Backlit logos

MicroLens molded light guides with embedded logo graphics save the extra step of adding an overlay and adhesive for product identification. Uniformly illuminated logos can be designed with virtually any text or image for applications such as consumer electronics, and automotive interiors and exteriors. Another application is the illumination of non-mechanical field switches in interface panels.

Shieldless connector

Increasing the airmax VS connector’s column spacing to 3mm (from 2mm) enables system designers to route high-speed signals using only two layers in their PC board backplanes and daughtercards, reducing the number of layers by as much as 50% while improving electrical performance. The component suits next generation platforms in routers, servers, workstations, RAID systems and VOD (video-on-demand) servers.

Ultrasonic wire welding

The SonoWeld MH-2016 spot welder and SpliceRite WS-2016 wire splicer are purportedly the only ultrasonic units capable of welding wires and terminals with tin coating, as an alternative to mechanical crimps and resistance welding. The units combine low variable amplitude sonics with high vibratory force, directed in a shear mode. The line of static clamping force is directly over the parts to be welded.

Optical fiber connector

The small form factor Simplex LC-type connector is about ½ the size of the SC-type optical fiber connector, and can be used in LAN, MAN and WAN applications. The device uses an RJ 45 type latching that, when properly mated, produces an audible sound. Keying prevents rotational misalignment. The connector is pre-assembled in single- or multi-mode, with a maximum insertion loss of 0.4 dB.
