* Offers extra flow, extra impact
Resins
Capron XFI resins offer extra flow and extra impact resistance for large part,
thin-wall applications. Their easy-flow characteristics improve cost effectiveness by
speeding cycle times, improving processability, and reducing the need for high processing
pressures and temperatures or specialized tooling and molding equipment. The resins can
easily fill large cavity molds without high injection pressures or excessive molded-in
stresses. Large part applications include automotive panels and motorcycle fairings. Its
low viscosity allows the resins to flow easily into a wide range of thin-wall parts, such
as cellular phones, handheld electronics.

Triax resins. In applications ranging from in-line skates,
industrial wheel hubs and auto roof racks to power tools and scuba gear, the Triax family
of resins provides features molders and OEMs will appreciate. Properties such as improved
impact and fatigue resistance and colorability make the resins popular in equipment
housings and fan parts subject to stresses caused by oscillation and vibration. The resins
also exhibit enhanced chemical and salt water resistance. Bayer Corp, 100 Bayer Rd,

Lubricomp RCE composites. This carbon fiber reinforced lubricated nylon 6/6 was used
to create a revolutionary bike product that converts a front suspension-only bike into a
full suspension bike in less than 30 minutes. The low cost composites are self-lubricated
and provide maximum creep resistance, low wear and low coefficient of friction for the
active pivot slot, trunnion and torque components. LNP Engineering Plastics, 475

High-strain phenolic composites. This high-strain, MPC
moldable phenolic composite material is for molding components that must endure high heat
cycling and high stress, yet provide greater resistance to cracking than standard
reinforced phenolics. The glass-reinforced material is ideal for molding powertrain and
electric motor components, as they resist creep, maintain high strength and elastic
stiffness, and withstand high temperatures. Rogers Corp, One Technology Dr, PO Box
188, Rogers, CT 06263. 860-774-9605. Circle 716.
Low density modeling board. This CNC-machinable board with a low density of 31
to 34 lbs./cu. ft. is for the production of temporary master models, styling models and
prototypes, and visual models. The Ren Shape 440 board is formulated for machining at
speeds of up to 1,800 in. per minute, using hardened steel cutters. It produces models
with a Shore 58D hardness, good edge definition and a smooth surface finish. It has a
glass transition temperature of 205°F and coefficient of thermal expansion of 35 x 10-6
in./in./°F. Measuring 60 in. long x 15.6 in. wide x 2- or 4-in. thick, it is bonded using
Ren-Weld 103 epoxy adhesive or RP 6456 polyurethane. Ciba Specialty Chemicals, 4917
Dawn Ave, E Lansing, MI 48823. 517-324-1349. Circle 717.
Silicone adhesive/sealant. MasterSil 705TC is a thermally
conductive, electrically insulative silicone adhesive. It is a 1-part system which
requires no mixing and is easy to apply. It cures readily when exposed to atmospheric
moisture and is a non-corrosive-type silicone. Suited for applications requiring
flexibility and high temperature resistance, it is also ideal for thermal conduction
applications where reworkability is a desirable feature. Master Bond, 154 Hobart
St, Hackensack, NJ 07601. 201-343-8983. Circle 718.
Super high-melt TPU film. A new line of high melt films is designed for use in
multi-layer laminations and other applications where materials are subject to high
temperatures. ST-1665 is a polyether thermoplastic polyurethane specifically formulated
for excellent heat resistance. Providing one of the highest melt temperatures available in
a thin urethane film (from 190°C to 210°C), its strength is not affected by temperatures
that melt other urethane films. Stevens Urethane, 9 Sullivan Rd, Holyoke, MA 01040.

Laser-markable Celanex polyesters. Three new grades of
laser-markable Celanex thermoplastic polyester generate bold, permanent characters and
graphics without costly printing. The high resolution marking technology enables designers
to decorate / identify parts permanently and combines mechanical properties of
conventional Celanex polyesters with laser markability. They tolerate up to 25% regrind
without loss of mechanical properties or marking quality. Ticona, Hoechst Celanese,
90 Morris Ave, Summit, NJ 07901. 908-598-4000. Circle 722.
Specialty resin. Cibatool SL 5210 is a specialty resin designed for applications that
rely on part stability under harsh environmental conditions such as extreme heat and/or
humidity. Designed for use on the SLA-190 and SLA-250 rapid prototyping systems, the resin
is ideal for wind tunnel testing, high temperature silicon curing methods, or functional
testing for automotive and consumer appliances. It is fully capable of withstanding harsh
conditions without sacrificing speed, surface finish or ease of use. Due to the advanced
vinyl ether/acrylate formulation, parts exhibit virtually no swelling or softening when
exposed to extreme levels of moisture. 3D Systems, 26081 Avenue Hall, Valencia, CA
91355. 805-295-5600. Circle 723.
Lubricated cast nylon. NYLAWEAR lubricated cast nylon offers a
combination of properties that make it extremely effective in applications requiring wear
and bearing performance under aggressive temperature and load conditions. Featuring a low
coefficient of friction, excellent wear resistance, high limiting PV and low moisture
absorption, NYLAWEAR has been used in a diverse range of industries, from construction to
food processing. A.L. Hyde Co, 1 Main St, Grenlock, NJ 08032. 800-234-HYDE. Circle

Weldable, formable Teflon PTFE. A family of chemically
modified PTFEs offers major improvements in performance and fabricating capabilities over
standard PTFE. Teflon NXT fluoropolymer resins can be welded and formed, and offer
opportunities for engineering products with higher permeation resistance, lower creep,
smoother surfaces and better high-voltage dielectric properties. DuPont Fluoroproducts,

Thermoplastic sheet. The mechanical performance, high stiffness and impact resistance
of GEPAX sheet makes it possible to produce lightweight material handling trays for tasks
such as holding automotive gearboxes. At just 6mm thick, the tray supports the heavy
component on only three small points totaling 3cm square. The new sheet makes it easier to
specify tough stock for transportation and material handling. GE Structured Products,
1 Plastic Ave, Pittsfield, MA 01201. 413-448-7701.

Nanofiber plastics. Anti-static plastics are offered that are loaded with
Graphite Fibril nanofibers, fibers that are just 0.01 µ in diameter. The uniform
dispersion of these microfibers in molded parts eliminate ESD hotspots. The molding
characteristics and physical properties of these resins are essentially the same as those
of their unfilled neat counterparts. This translates into lower fill pressures, excellent
flow length, isotropic shrinkage, reduced processing temperatures and stress free,
non-warping parts. These properties simplify the material selection decision when
developing ESD-sensitive versions of existing designs. Manufacturers can use existing
molds, tooling and processing protocols to produce conductive parts suitable for cleanroom
settings. Hyperion Catalysis International Inc, 38 Smith Pl, Cambridge, MA 02138.
