Being a Boeing supplier just got easier

Companies looking to become suppliers to The Boeing Company now have a simpler way to get on to Boeing's preferred provider list. The aeronautics giant recently announced that it will now accept IEC TS 62239 certification for Electronic Component Management Programs (ECMP) under the IEC's Conformity Assessment System. This means that, for the first time, Boeing will accept third-party audits to qualify suppliers.

"For companies looking to do business with Boeing, such as those who want to be a supplier for the 787 Dreamliner program, IEC TS 62239 certification is the way to get in the door," says Chris Morrell, vice president of the National Standards Authority of Ireland. "Boeing is no longer requiring companies to meet Boeing-specific requirements to become a vendor. Instead, the company has decided the IEC TS 62239 certification proves that suppliers will provide them with reliable avionic systems equipment built to an exacting standard. NSAI is proud to be one of only three International accredited bodies that can provide this independent, third-party assessment and certification service to companies."

Morrell explains that the IECQ Electronic Component Management Program allows companies to define and document their processes to assure that they are providing highly reliable component parts to the aerospace industry.

"By accepting third-party audits, and ceasing their own second-party ECMP assessments, Boeing is recognizing that international certification better supports the global nature of their supply chain and that of their avionics, aerospace, and military customers," says Morrell.

For more information about NSAI's IEC TS 62239 certification services, contact Chris Morrell at 866-744-6724 or email chris.morrell@nsaiinc.com.

Single-row deep-groove ball bearings

NKE’s single-row deep-groove ball bearings are subject to stringent, documented quality inspections as well as 100% noise testing, which helps ensure their high precision and quiet operation. The low running noise is achieved through the use of a new type of lubricant, which also minimizes the bearing’s starting torque even at low operating temperatures. The lubricant has a long service life over a wide temperature range from -50°C to 150°C.

These bearings feature a pair of newly developed double-lipped labyrinth seals, which provide better protection from contamination and improve grease retention in spite of the low friction.

Prelubricated-for-life bearings save time and money

MRC brand Marathon series prelubricated mounted bearing units offer sustained maintenance benefits by eliminating any need for regreasing over their lifetime. They can save substantial time and money usually spent on the lubrication process and additionally can contribute to “green” conditions on the plant floor.

The USDA H1-approved high-quality synthetic grease is odorless, tasteless, and approved for use in all food-processing and beverage industry applications. Among other benefits, the grease imparts excellent internal and external bearing protection, high aging resistance for extended lubricant life, and high load-carrying capacity, which helps to prevent premature bearing wear.

"Tunable" active suspension improves heavy-duty mobile equipment performance

A new "tunable" piston hydraulic spring/shock absorber suspension design from Parker enables manufacturers of heavy-duty mobile equipment to incorporate a fully active suspension into their equipment. Operators will have the flexibility to change suspension dynamics through an electronic interface to fit load conditions and the type of terrain from hard pavement to sand, gravel, and cross-country.

Simplicity of design in combination with fewer installation components enables users to realize a 50% savings in space. In most applications the spring/shock absorber will fall within a standard footprint, 3- to 4.5-in. O.D., and a 12-in. long body. The projected savings in installation costs over traditional OEM suspension systems is significant.

Low-temp fluid extends temperature range, capabilities

Paratherm CR low-temperature heat transfer fluid has a working temperature range of -100°C to +204°C. Compared to other products for very low temperature control, the CR fluid’s significantly lower viscosity brings higher efficiency, which can decrease cycle time and improve product purity — and improve flowrate in existing systems. With Paratherm CR’s lower pour point and lower susceptibility to water contamination, coil freeze-ups are also much less likely. And while other extreme-low temperature fluids attain their properties at the cost of a lower flashpoint (often in the flammable range) the Paratherm CR fluid’s 43°C flashpoint is well within the safer combustible range.

Benefits include: 20% increase in flow rate; no equipment modifications; 10°F-lower operation, same viscosity; easy cleanup, no residue.

New light grid provides fast and reliable detection

With high resolution and fast switching speeds, the HLG Light Grid Sensor is an ideal addition to the versatile array of light grid solutions from SICK. The HLG is ideal for part counting and leading-edge detection on a conveyor.

The HLG offers a higher resolution than the company’s existing ELG Light Grids, resulting in a much smaller minimum detectable object (MDO) size of 2 mm. The HLG Light Grids are through-beam-style switching light grids. They provide a fast and reliable switching output any time one of the beams is blocked.

Teflon tape with adhesive on both sides

Double–sided Teflon Tape allows customers to fasten two substrates together easily and cost effectively. Rivets, bolts, and screws are not necessary. PTFE substrate has the same characteristics associated with Teflon: chemical resistance, a non-porous barrier, extreme temperature resistance, and dielectric strength. 3M acrylic adhesive on both sides enables attachment to other substrates. The adhesives are resistant to extreme temperatures and chemicals.

Fire-resistant heat shrink protects components

PTFE Texflour Heat Shrinkable Tubing is a fluoropolymer that protects components from heat, sparks, and contaminants. With a V-O flammability rating, it is often used in applications where fire hazards are present, such as aircraft harnesses or electrical cable assemblies. In addition, it is self-extinguishing and handles temperatures as high as 500°F (260°C).

PTFE Texflour Heat Shrinkable Tubing is supplied in an expanded state, allowing easy slippage over cables, fittings, and other protrusions. When heated, the tubing conforms to the size and shape of the original object, providing a protective covering. It may also be used to repair electrical wiring, fittings, cords, and other objects that need to be protected from heat, water, dust, or corrosion.

Hinge switches provide additional safety

SI-HG63 Series Hinge Safety Interlock Switches are used in place of the standard hinges on swinging guards, gates, or doors. They offer two normally closed safety contacts and one normally open auxiliary contact for greater application flexibility. When the SI-HG63 hinge switch is activated, these normally closed safety contacts are forced open by a nonresilient mechanical means (not reliant on springs), interrupting the electrical circuit and sending a stop signal to the machine control. SI-HG63 hinge switches are also repositionable, with a safety switching point that is easily adjustable (±1.5°) throughout the hinge’s full 0-270° range of motion.

Banner’s SI-HG63 hinge switches are built to withstand harsh plant environments, with each safety switch body integrated into a highly robust PBT housing. They are rated IEC IP67 and deliver superior performance and improved protection against defeat over actuator-style safety switches. Each hinge can support an axial and radial load of 1,200 N (approximately 120 kg).
