| LETTERS Good help is hard to find I just read your editorial on labor ["Finders, keepers," December 1998, page 9]. Every industry editor should emphasize the problem and seek solutions. Skilled labor is very difficult to find. At our company, we take smart people and teach them skills. They learn very quickly when surrounded by capable craftsmen. Anthony C. Muse
"What better way to learn ..." you said in your December editorial, than from those who are doing it. That is, if we really want to learn. "Finders, keepers" was truly a refreshing look at our precarious situation, especially in regard to the neglected training and education of our people, particlulary those who would enjoy becoming a vital part of our skilled workforce. And referring to Congressman Talent's commendable efforts was appreciated. Thank you so much for your inspiring words in Metlfax, and for pointing out how we could find what we've been missing. With every good wish, Karlheinz A. Halter |
